Overview
The Takamaz XTS-6 is a compact single-spindle CNC precision lathe built around a 6-inch chuck capacity for high-speed production turning of small to medium parts. Designed as a workhorse for automated production cells, the XTS-6 combines a fast 5,000 RPM spindle with an 8-station turret and Takamaz's proven automation integration in an exceptionally compact footprint of just 1,105 x 1,380 mm — one of the smallest CNC lathes in its capability class.
The 7.5/5.5 kW spindle motor with 75 mm bearing bore provides the rigidity and power needed for production turning of steel, aluminum, cast iron, and brass. At 5,000 RPM, the machine generates excellent surface speeds across the 6-inch chuck range, enabling fine surface finishes on precision components without secondary operations. Rapid traverse rates of 18 m/min on X and 24 m/min on Z minimize non-cutting time for high-throughput production.
The XTS-6 runs on a Fanuc 0i-TF Plus control — a departure from the Mitsubishi controls found on some other Takamaz models. This gives shops already running Fanuc-controlled machines a familiar programming environment, reducing training time and enabling program sharing across the shop floor. The 8-station turret handles standard OD/ID turning, facing, grooving, threading, and boring operations efficiently.
Automation integration is central to the XTS-6's design. Takamaz offers three loader options: the standard SigmaiC60, the FC60 with touchscreen and Windows PC interface, and the advanced FGH configuration. Each loader system is designed for seamless integration, enabling the XTS-6 to run unattended for extended production periods. The ultra-compact footprint means shops can install multiple XTS-6 machines in cell configurations where floor space is at a premium.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Ultra-compact 1.1 x 1.4 meter footprint is among the smallest for a 6-inch class CNC lathe
- 5,000 RPM spindle speed delivers excellent surface speeds across the full chuck range
- Fanuc 0i-TF Plus control provides a familiar programming environment for most shops
- Three loader options (SigmaiC60, FC60, FGH) offer flexible automation configurations
- 230 mm Z-axis travel provides generous turning length relative to the machine's compact size
- Low acquisition cost makes multi-machine cell configurations economically viable
Limitations
- 8-station turret limits tool capacity for complex parts requiring many different tools
- No live tooling capability restricts the machine to pure turning operations only
- 6-inch maximum chuck size limits workpiece diameter range compared to 8-inch competitors
- Limited service network outside Japan may create support challenges for Western shops

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New Takamaz XTS-6 machines price between $85,000 and $130,000 depending on the loader system selected. The SigmaiC60 is the most economical option, while the FGH loader adds cost but provides advanced workpiece handling capabilities.
02
The XTS-6 has a 6-inch chuck versus the XT-8's 8-inch, with 5,000 RPM versus 4,500 RPM spindle speed and 230 mm versus 120 mm Z-travel. The XTS-6 is faster on smaller parts and offers more turning length, while the XT-8 handles larger diameter workpieces.
03
The SigmaiC60 covers most standard production scenarios. The FC60 adds a touchscreen and Windows PC interface for more complex part handling requirements. The FGH is the premium option for the most demanding automation applications.
04
Yes, the XTS-6 accepts both standard 6-inch hydraulic chucks and collet chucks. Collet chucks are preferred for bar-fed production and high-precision work where concentricity is critical.
