Overview
The Takamaz XW-200 is a twin-spindle CNC lathe stepping up to a 10-inch chuck class for production machining of medium-sized parts up to 200 mm in diameter. As the larger sibling of the 8-inch XW-130, the XW-200 extends Takamaz's twin-spindle automation philosophy to parts that simply cannot fit in the smaller platform, including larger automotive components, pump housings, gear blanks, and medium-sized hydraulic valve bodies.
Both spindles deliver substantial 18.5/15 kW of power at up to 2,800 RPM through 120 mm spindle bores, providing the torque needed for aggressive roughing on steel, cast iron, and stainless steel at the larger diameters this machine handles. The dual 10-inch collet chucks securely grip larger workpieces for heavy cutting without chatter. Each spindle has its own 8-station turret with 170 mm X-travel and 220 mm Z-travel.
The twin-spindle architecture with automatic part transfer enables complete both-end machining without operator intervention. Parts are loaded, machined on the first spindle, automatically transferred to the second spindle for back-end operations, and unloaded as finished components. This eliminates the second-operation lathe and the work-in-process inventory that manual part handling generates.
Rapid traverse rates of 24 m/min on both X and Z keep non-cutting time to a minimum. The Fanuc 0i-TF control manages multi-channel programming for synchronized or independent spindle-turret operation. The footprint of 1,990 x 2,330 mm (2,350 x 2,330 mm with loader) is compact for a twin-spindle 10-inch machine. Takamaz reports a 180% increase in cutting capacity over previous-generation models, with loader capacity for workpieces up to 8.0 kg.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 10-inch chuck class with 18.5/15 kW spindles handles medium-sized parts that the 8-inch XW-130 cannot accommodate
- Twin-spindle design delivers complete both-end machining in a single automated cycle
- 180% increase in cutting capacity over previous generation delivers significantly faster material removal
- 24 m/min rapid traverse on all axes minimizes non-cutting time between operations
- 120 mm spindle bores accommodate larger bar stock for continuous automated production
- Integrated gantry loader with 8 kg capacity handles heavier medium-sized workpieces
Limitations
- 2,800 RPM maximum spindle speed limits surface speed on smaller-diameter features and aluminum work
- 8-station turrets without live tooling restrict the machine to pure turning operations
- Higher cost than the 8-inch XW-130 requires larger part volumes or higher-value parts to justify
- Limited Takamaz dealer and service network outside Japan and select Asian markets

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New Takamaz XW-200 machines typically price between $260,000 and $380,000 depending on tooling and loader configuration. The 10-inch platform commands a premium over the 8-inch XW-130 but handles significantly larger parts.
02
The XW-200 steps up to 10-inch chucks with 18.5/15 kW spindles (vs 8-inch and 15 kW), 120 mm spindle bores (vs 100 mm), and 200 mm turning diameter capability. The trade-off is lower spindle speed at 2,800 RPM vs 4,500 RPM on the XW-130.
03
Yes. The 18.5/15 kW spindle power on each side provides ample torque for production turning of stainless steel, alloy steel, and cast iron at the larger diameters. The rigid 10-inch chuck provides secure clamping for heavy cuts.
04
The integrated gantry loader handles workpieces up to 8.0 kg. This accommodates most medium-sized steel and cast iron parts within the 200 mm diameter range. Parts exceeding 8 kg can be loaded manually.
