Overview

The Trumpf TruBend Center Series 7000 is a panel bending machine that approaches sheet metal forming fundamentally differently from conventional press brakes. Instead of a punch-and-die bending stroke, the TruBend Center uses a swivel bending principle where the sheet is clamped between upper and lower beam tools and a bending blade rotates upward or downward to form the bend. This allows both upward and downward bends without flipping the part, sequential bending of complex profiles without repositioning, and forming enclosed boxes and deep channels impossible on conventional press brakes.

The Series 7000 is available in two configurations. The TruBend Center 7020 provides a 2,163 mm bending length with maximum part size of 2,160 x 1,500 mm, while the TruBend Center 7030 extends to 3,123 mm bending length with 3,120 x 1,500 mm maximum part size. Both handle minimum bending lengths down to 200 mm. Material capacity covers 3 mm mild steel (400 MPa), 2.2 mm stainless steel (700 MPa), and 4 mm aluminum (265 MPa), with minimum thickness of 0.4 mm.

The 7020 achieves a maximum box height of 350 mm, while the 7030 reaches 220 mm. Machine weights are 21,500 kg for the 7020 and 31,600 kg for the 7030. Installation dimensions are 5,200 x 4,855 x 3,326 mm for the 7020 and 6,490 x 5,327 x 3,345 mm for the 7030.

The ACB laser angle sensor provides automatic angle correction during bending. An optional 2-axis part manipulator automates part positioning. The On-Demand Drive hydraulic system reduces energy consumption. Average power consumption is 10 kW for the 7020 and 15 kW for the 7030.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Swivel bending enables both upward and downward bends without flipping the part, reducing handling time for complex multi-bend profiles
  • Can form enclosed boxes, deep channels, and profiles impossible on conventional press brakes due to tooling interference
  • ACB laser angle sensor provides automatic springback compensation for consistent bend angles
  • On-Demand Drive hydraulic system reduces energy consumption to 10-15 kW average
  • Optional 2-axis part manipulator automates positioning for semi-autonomous operation
  • Two machine sizes (7020 and 7030) cover 200 mm to 3,123 mm bending length

Limitations

  • 3 mm maximum mild steel thickness limits the machine to thin-gauge work
  • Substantial machine weight (21,500-31,600 kg) requires dedicated floor space and foundation preparation
  • Higher acquisition cost than conventional press brakes of similar capacity
  • Panel bending requires operator training on fundamentally different bending concepts

Best For

Enclosure and cabinet manufacturers producing formed boxes where swivel bending eliminates multiple press brake setups HVAC and architectural panel fabricators forming complex multi-bend profiles in thin-gauge material High-mix sheet metal shops where single-setup complex profiles reduce per-part handling time Electronics enclosure manufacturers producing tight-tolerance shielded boxes Production environments requiring consistent bend quality across material lot variations

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does panel bending differ from press brake bending?

In a press brake, a punch pushes sheet into a V-die. In the TruBend Center, the sheet is clamped and a bending blade rotates to form the bend -- upward or downward. The sheet stays clamped between bends for continuous automated sequences.

02 What is the difference between the 7020 and 7030?

The 7020 has 2,163 mm bending length with 350 mm max box height (21,500 kg). The 7030 has 3,123 mm bending length with 220 mm max box height (31,600 kg). Choose the 7020 for deeper boxes, the 7030 for longer panels.

03 Can it replace a press brake?

For thin-gauge work up to 3 mm with complex multi-bend profiles, it is far more efficient. But it cannot handle thicker material, and simple single bends may be faster on a press brake. Most shops use both.

04 What is ACB angle sensing?

ACB uses laser sensors to measure the actual bend angle during forming and automatically corrects the blade position for springback. This eliminates test bends and produces first-part-correct results across material variations.
