Overview

The Hurco TM10Mi brings C-axis and live tooling capability to the 10-inch chuck platform, giving shops the ability to complete medium-sized parts with turning and milling features in a single setup. With 22.4 kW (30 hp) spindle power, 76 mm bar capacity, and live tools spinning at 5,000 RPM, it handles the combination of turning and secondary milling operations that would otherwise require both a lathe and a VMC.

The main spindle runs to 3,500 RPM through an A2-8 spindle nose, delivering strong torque for medium-diameter turning in steel and stainless. Maximum turning diameter is 410 mm (16.1 in) with a swing over bed of 635 mm (25 in) and maximum turning length of 533 mm (21 in). The 76 mm (3.0 in) bar capacity supports bar feeding of larger-diameter stock.

The 12-station turret accepts live tools at up to 5,000 RPM for cross-drilling, milling flats, tapping radial holes, and other secondary operations. The programmable C-axis provides spindle positioning to 0.001 degree for accurate feature placement. Like all TM-series mill-turn machines, the TM10Mi does not include a Y-axis — milling is limited to on-center and radial operations.

Travels are 225 mm (8.9 in) in X and 533 mm (21 in) in Z. Construction follows Hurco's standard Meehanite cast iron approach with 30-degree slant bed, linear guideways, and pre-tensioned ball screws. Machine weight is approximately 4,700 kg (10,362 lb), providing solid rigidity for both turning and live tooling operations.

The WinMax conversational control handles the integrated turning and milling workflow, making the TM10Mi accessible to operators without CAM programming skills. For shops producing medium-sized parts with cross-holes, flats, keyways, and tapped features, the TM10Mi eliminates secondary setups at a lower cost than a full Y-axis mill-turn machine. It competes with the Haas ST-20Y (minus Y), Doosan Puma 2600M, and Mazak QT-250M.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 30 hp spindle with C-axis and live tooling provides genuine mill-turn capability on 10-inch chuck platform
  • 76 mm bar capacity enables bar-fed production of larger-diameter mill-turn parts
  • WinMax conversational programming integrates turning and milling operations without CAM dependency
  • 5,000 RPM live tools deliver real milling performance for cross-drilling, flat milling, and tapping
  • Lower cost than full Y-axis 10-inch mill-turn machines while still eliminating many secondary operations
  • 4,700 kg machine weight provides the rigidity needed for both heavy turning and live tooling operations

Limitations

  • No Y-axis restricts milling to on-center and radial operations — off-center pockets and features require a VMC
  • 3,500 RPM main spindle speed is moderate for smaller-diameter aluminum work where more RPM improves finish
  • 12 tool stations can limit setup flexibility when running complex mill-turn programs with many tool types
  • 533 mm turning length is shorter than TMX-series machines offering 640+ mm
  • Hurco's dealer network is smaller than major competitors for service coverage in some regions
05

Best For

Shops producing medium-sized parts with turning plus cross-holes, flats, and tapped features in one setup Oil and gas fitting manufacturers needing radial features on 3-10 inch diameter turned parts Job shops eliminating secondary VMC operations on 10-inch chuck work without investing in full Y-axis mill-turn Shops bar-feeding parts up to 76 mm diameter that require both turning and milling features Hydraulic component producers completing valve bodies and fittings with cross-ports in the lathe Small-to-medium manufacturers valuing WinMax programming speed for diverse mill-turn part mixes

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does a Hurco TM10Mi cost?

A new Hurco TM10Mi typically sells between $100,000 and $140,000 depending on options. This is approximately $25,000-$40,000 less than a comparable 10-inch mill-turn machine with Y-axis capability.

02 What is the difference between the TM10Mi and TM10MYi?

The TM10MYi adds Y-axis travel for off-center milling operations. The TM10Mi is limited to on-center and radial C-axis operations. If your parts require pockets with flat bottoms, hex features, or off-center holes, you need the Y-axis on the TM10MYi. For cross-holes, flats, and radial tapping, the TM10Mi is sufficient.

03 How does the TM10Mi compare to the Haas ST-20Y?

The Haas ST-20Y actually includes Y-axis capability at a comparable price point. If Y-axis is important, the Haas offers more capability for the money. The Hurco TM10Mi's advantage is WinMax conversational programming, which saves significant time on job changeovers. If you don't need Y-axis, the TM10Mi is the more cost-effective choice.

04 Can the TM10Mi handle castings with live tooling operations?

Yes. The 4,700 kg machine weight and 30 hp spindle handle turning of castings and forgings, and the live tooling can cross-drill and tap features on cast parts after turning. The key limitation is that all milled features must be on-center or radial.

05 What types of live tooling operations can the TM10Mi perform?

Cross-drilling, radial tapping, flat milling (D-cuts), on-center drilling and tapping, engraving, and slot cutting on the OD. The C-axis positions the spindle for accurate angular placement of these features. Off-center pockets and features requiring Y-axis positioning are not possible.
