Overview
The Hermle C 22 U GEN2 is the updated generation of Hermle's compact High-Performance Line 5-axis machining center, stepping up from the C 12 U GEN2 with significantly more travel and triple the table load capacity. The GEN2 ships with a choice of Heidenhain TNC7 or Siemens SINUMERIK ONE controls — the first Hermle to offer the new Siemens platform.
X/Y/Z travels are 450 x 600 x 330 mm (17.7 x 23.6 x 13.0 in) with a 320 mm (12.6 in) diameter swiveling rotary table rated for 300 kg (661 lb). The collision circle measures 610 mm (24.0 in) and vertical table clearance reaches 470 mm. The generous Y-axis travel at 600 mm makes the C 22 U particularly capable for its size class, and the machine can be transported without dismantling and set up without a foundation.
Spindle options span from 15,000 to 42,000 rpm including 16,000, 20,000, 25,000, and 30,000 rpm variants — all on HSK-A63 tooling. Rapid traverse is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) standard with a 50 m/min (1,969 ipm) option. The mineral-cast base provides the vibration damping that Hermle machines are known for.
The dual control option is significant: shops standardized on Heidenhain get the latest TNC7, while shops running Siemens can now buy a Hermle with SINUMERIK ONE — a control that brings digital twin capability, enhanced collision avoidance, and seamless integration with Siemens PLM software.
The C 22 U GEN2 competes with the DMG Mori DMU 50 and Mazak Variaxis C-600. It fills the gap between the compact C 12 U GEN2 and the larger C 32 U GEN2. New pricing runs $380,000-$550,000.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Choice of Heidenhain TNC7 or Siemens SINUMERIK ONE control — first Hermle with new Siemens platform
- 300 kg table load is triple the C 12 U, handling heavier fixtures and workpieces
- Spindle options from 15,000 to 42,000 rpm on HSK-A63 cover the full application range
- 600 mm Y-axis travel provides generous depth for a compact 5-axis machine
- No foundation required — can be transported without dismantling for quick installation
- Mineral-cast base delivers exceptional vibration damping for surface finish quality
Limitations
- 330 mm Z-travel limits tall workpiece machining compared to larger machines
- 320 mm table diameter is compact — shops needing larger clamping should look at C 32 U GEN2
- Premium pricing at $380K-$550K exceeds most competitors in this size class
- 30 m/min standard rapids are moderate — the 50 m/min option adds cost

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The GEN2 adds the Siemens SINUMERIK ONE control option alongside the Heidenhain TNC7, introduces new 16,000 and 25,000 rpm spindle options, and includes updated drive technology. The work envelope remains the same.
02
New machines run $380,000-$550,000 depending on control choice, spindle, and options. The Siemens SINUMERIK ONE option may carry a premium over the Heidenhain TNC7.
03
Choose based on your shop's existing control platform and operator training. The TNC7 excels at 5-axis programming and shop-floor usability. The SINUMERIK ONE offers digital twin capability and integrates with Siemens PLM ecosystems.
04
The C 22 U offers 100 mm more X-travel, 160 mm more Y-travel, triple the table load at 300 kg, and the Siemens control option. Choose the C 12 U if parts fit within 320 mm and 100 kg and you need the smallest footprint.
