Overview

The DMG Mori DMU 75 monoBLOCK 2nd Generation is the latest evolution of the mid-large monoBLOCK 5-axis platform, delivering 750 x 650 x 560 mm (29.5 x 25.6 x 22.0 in) of travel in a compact 8 m2 footprint. This 2nd Generation redesign refines the one-piece cast iron construction, drive systems, and thermal management while maintaining the monoBLOCK hallmarks of rigidity, accuracy, and spindle modularity that have made the platform a benchmark in 5-axis machining.

The swivel rotary table accommodates workpieces up to 840 mm (33.1 in) in diameter and 500 mm (19.7 in) tall, with a 600 kg (1,323 lb) table load capacity. The +/-120 degree tilt range with DirectDrive motors provides backlash-free positioning for simultaneous 5-axis contouring. The 45 mm roller guideways in all axes ensure rigidity under aggressive cutting conditions.

Positioning accuracy of 4 microns comes standard, with VCS Complete available for further volumetric accuracy improvement. The door opening of 1,310 mm (51.6 in) provides excellent ergonomic access for loading large workpieces. SpeedMASTER spindles range from 15,000 to 30,000 RPM with torque options up to 200 Nm, covering applications from heavy titanium roughing to high-speed aluminum finishing.

Control options include Siemens SINUMERIK ONE and Heidenhain TNC7 under CELOS X. Tool magazine capacity scales from 30 to 240 pockets. The DMU 75 monoBLOCK 2nd Generation sits between the DMU 65 and DMU 85 in the lineup, offering the ideal balance of work envelope, table load, and footprint for shops that find the DMU 65 slightly too small and the DMU 85 more capacity than needed.

The 2nd Generation improvements include enhanced thermal stability, optimized coolant management, and updated control integration. The machine competes directly with the Hermle C 400, Okuma MU-5000V, and Matsuura MAM72-35V, offering the widest spindle modularity in its class.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • MonoBLOCK one-piece casting delivers exceptional rigidity and vibration damping for consistent accuracy under heavy cuts
  • 4 micron positioning accuracy as standard meets demanding aerospace and medical tolerance requirements
  • 750 mm X-travel and 600 kg table load hit the sweet spot between the DMU 65 and DMU 85 for mid-size parts
  • SpeedMASTER spindles up to 30K RPM with 200 Nm torque option cover the full material spectrum
  • 8 m2 footprint is remarkably compact for a monoBLOCK-class machine with this work envelope
  • 240-tool magazine option supports complex multi-operation jobs and extended unattended production

Limitations

  • 600 kg table load capacity is lower than the DMU 65 monoBLOCK (1,000 kg), limiting heavy-fixture applications
  • Premium pricing versus eVo-series machines with similar travel dimensions but less rigidity
  • 45 mm roller guideways provide excellent rigidity but 40 m/min rapid traverse is not class-leading
  • DMG Mori service and parts costs are among the highest in the industry
05

Best For

Aerospace manufacturers machining mid-size structural components, brackets, and fittings in aluminum and titanium Mold and die shops producing medium-sized cavity inserts requiring 5-axis contouring accuracy Job shops needing a versatile 5-axis platform that balances work envelope with compact footprint Production environments requiring consistent 4-micron accuracy across extended production runs Shops standardized on SIEMENS or HEIDENHAIN controls needing a high-capability mid-size 5-axis platform

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is new in the DMU 75 monoBLOCK 2nd Generation?

The 2nd Generation brings enhanced thermal stability through improved coolant management and thermal compensation, updated CELOS X control integration, refined casting design for better vibration damping, and 4-micron positioning accuracy as standard. The travel dimensions and table specs remain similar to the 1st Generation, but the overall machine performance and reliability are improved.

02 How does the DMU 75 compare to the DMU 65 monoBLOCK?

The DMU 75 offers 15 mm more X-travel (750 vs 735 mm) but significantly lower table load capacity (600 kg vs 1,000 kg). The DMU 65 is the better choice for heavy parts and fixtures. The DMU 75 fits applications where the extra X-travel matters more than table load. Both share the same spindle options and control platforms.

03 What does the DMU 75 monoBLOCK 2nd Generation cost?

New machines price between $320,000 and $520,000 depending on spindle selection, tool magazine size, and options. A mid-configured machine with 18K RPM spindle and 60-tool magazine runs approximately $380,000-$420,000. Used 1st Generation units sell for $160,000-$260,000.

04 Can the DMU 75 monoBLOCK be automated?

Yes. DMG Mori offers the PH 150 pallet handling system, Robo2Go robotic loading, and WH (workpiece handling) systems. The 240-tool magazine option combined with pallet automation enables multi-shift unattended production. The machine interface comes pre-wired for automation integration.
