Overview
The SNK NeoV-MII is a double-column 5-axis vertical machining center designed for medium to large aerospace and industrial components. The NeoV-MII represents SNK's approach to delivering 5-axis capability in a bridge-type (double-column) configuration that provides exceptional rigidity and thermal symmetry. The symmetrical twin-column structure distributes cutting forces evenly and resists the twisting and bending moments that single-column machines struggle with during heavy 5-axis machining.
X-axis travel ranges from 2,500 to 6,000 mm depending on configuration, with Y-axis travel of 2,500 to 3,500 mm and Z-axis of 700 to 1,000 mm. The 5-axis universal head provides continuous A-axis tilting of +/-110 degrees and 360-degree continuous C-axis rotation for full simultaneous 5-axis surface machining. The spindle delivers 37 kW at speeds up to 12,000 RPM standard, with 20,000 and 24,000 RPM high-speed options for aluminum aerospace machining.
The NeoV designation represents SNK's newer generation of double-column machines with improved thermal management, enhanced dynamic response, and modern control integration. The MII variant specifically targets the mid-range of the NeoV lineup, offering enough travel for significant aerospace structural parts while remaining more accessible than SNK's largest gantry machines. The double-column design makes the NeoV-MII inherently more rigid than single-column or C-frame machines of similar travel, which translates to higher metal removal rates in titanium and steel without sacrificing surface finish quality.
SNK equips the NeoV-MII with their proprietary spindle head design featuring oil-air lubricated precision bearings and a built-in spindle chiller for thermal stability during extended high-speed machining. The machine accepts the operator's choice of Fanuc 31i-B5 or Siemens SINUMERIK 840D sl control, both configured for simultaneous 5-axis NURBS interpolation. A standard 60-tool ATC (expandable to 120 or 180) supports complex parts requiring many tool changes, and the tool breakage detection system prevents crashed tools from damaging expensive workpieces.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Double-column (bridge) construction provides superior rigidity and thermal symmetry compared to single-column 5-axis machines
- Continuous 5-axis universal head with +/-110 degree A-axis covers the most demanding compound surface machining
- 37 kW spindle with HSK-A100 tooling enables aggressive roughing in titanium and high-nickel alloys
- Scalable X-axis from 2.5 to 6 meters accommodates a wide range of aerospace structural component sizes
- 15,000 kg table capacity handles heavy forgings, castings, and fixture assemblies
- NeoV-generation thermal management and spindle chiller maintain accuracy during long machining cycles
Limitations
- Double-column footprint requires significantly more floor space than single-column or C-frame 5-axis machines
- Price range of $1.2-3.5M limits the buyer pool to well-capitalized aerospace and heavy industry manufacturers
- Z-axis travel of 700-1,000 mm may be limiting for deep-cavity mold work or tall structural parts
- Machine weight of 35,000-60,000 kg demands substantial foundation engineering
- SNK service response times can be extended in regions without dedicated SNK field engineers

Frequently Asked Questions
01
SNK NeoV-MII machines price between $1,200,000 and $3,500,000 depending on travel configuration, spindle options, and ATC capacity. Mid-range configurations for typical aerospace structural work fall in the $1.5-2.5M range.
02
The NeoV-MII is a double-column (bridge) machine with travels up to 6 meters, while the HGM-5 is a gantry machine scalable to 20+ meters. The NeoV-MII offers higher rigidity per unit of travel due to the double-column design, while the HGM-5 handles much larger parts. Choose the NeoV-MII for parts in the 2.5-6 meter range and the HGM-5 for anything larger.
03
Double-column machines are inherently more rigid than gantry machines of similar travel because the crossrail span is shorter and both columns are anchored to the same base. This translates to higher cutting force capability and better surface finishes during heavy 5-axis machining. The trade-off is a more limited maximum travel range.
04
Yes. With the high-speed spindle option (20,000 or 24,000 RPM) and appropriate dust extraction, the NeoV-MII machines CFRP and other composite materials effectively. However, if composites are the primary application, a dedicated composite trimming machine may be more cost-effective.
05
SNK recommends daily inspection of lubrication systems, weekly coolant checks, and quarterly guideway and ballscrew inspections. Annual service includes spindle bearing checks, axis backlash measurement, and geometric accuracy verification. SNK offers service contracts for customers who prefer outsourced maintenance.
