Overview
The GF Machining Solutions Liechti Turbomill 2600gx is the largest machine in the Turbomill family — a 5-axis blade machining center with a 2,600 mm workzone designed for the most oversized turbine blades and vane segments in aerospace, industrial gas turbine (IGT), and steam turbine production. With a recommended part diameter of 700 mm, the 2600gx addresses applications where even the 2,000 mm workzone of the 2000gx falls short.
The 2,600 mm working envelope enables machining of the largest last-stage LP turbine blades, oversized IGT blading for next-generation high-efficiency turbines, and long steam turbine blades that represent the extreme end of airfoil manufacturing. These components are among the most challenging and highest-value parts in turbomachinery production.
The spindle delivers 20,000 RPM through an HSK-A63 interface with 65 kW (87 hp) continuous power and 220 Nm torque — the highest power and torque ratings in the Turbomill family, required for the massive stock removal volumes on blade blanks at this scale. Complete machining capability covers milling, turning, threading, chamfering, engraving, and brushing in a single setup.
Turbosoft+ CAM provides optimized strategies for the extended airfoil surfaces and complex root/shroud geometries encountered on the largest blade types. The Siemens Sinumerik 840D sl control manages precise 5-axis interpolation across the full 2,600 mm travel range. The machine's thermal management system compensates for the temperature gradients that develop during extended cutting cycles on large parts.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2,600 mm workzone is the largest in the Turbomill family — handles the most oversized turbine blading
- 65 kW spindle with 220 Nm torque is the most powerful single-spindle Turbomill configuration
- 700 mm part diameter accommodates the largest blade root and shroud geometries
- Complete machining in one setup eliminates re-fixturing for large, high-value blade components
- Turbosoft+ CAM optimized for extended airfoil surfaces with very long chord lengths
- Thermal management compensates for temperature gradients on extended cutting cycles
Limitations
- At $3.5M-$5.5M, the 2600gx requires the highest blade production volumes to justify
- 42,000 kg machine weight demands the most substantial foundation engineering in the Turbomill range
- Extremely large footprint limits installation to purpose-built facilities
- Dedicated to the largest blade types — oversized for typical medium-blade production

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The 2600gx has a 30% larger workzone (2,600 vs 2,000 mm), more spindle power (65 vs 60 kW), more torque (220 vs 200 Nm), and heavier construction (42,000 vs 35,000 kg). Both share the 700 mm part diameter. The 2600gx is specifically for blades that physically exceed the 2000gx working envelope.
02
The 2,600 mm workzone handles the largest last-stage LP turbine blades, oversized IGT blading, and long steam turbine blades up to approximately 1,000 mm blade length depending on root and shroud configuration. These are among the largest single airfoil components manufactured.
03
GF Machining Solutions currently offers the 2000gx Twin as the dual-spindle option in this size range. The 2600gx is available as a single-spindle configuration, as the extended workzone is typically needed for the largest individual blades rather than high-volume dual-blade production.
04
Inconel 718, Waspaloy, Rene 80, Ti-6Al-4V, single-crystal nickel superalloys, cobalt-chrome alloys, and stainless steels. The 65 kW spindle with 220 Nm torque handles the heaviest material removal demands on the largest superalloy blade blanks.
