Overview
The Enshu JE80 is a large-capacity horizontal machining center featuring an 800 mm pallet and generous travels of 1,100 x 900 x 900 mm, built for heavy workpieces up to 1,500 kg. This is Enshu's answer for shops machining large industrial components, heavy equipment parts, and oversized castings that exceed the capacity of the GE-series production machines. The JE80 targets job shops and medium-volume producers who need the envelope and cutting power of a large horizontal without the multi-million-dollar price of the biggest machines on the market.
The BT-50 spindle delivers 22 kW of power at speeds up to 8,000 RPM standard, providing the torque needed for heavy face milling, deep boring, and aggressive roughing on cast iron and steel workpieces. The large work envelope allows four-face machining of substantial parts in a single setup, reducing the handling and setup time that kills productivity on large components. The table indexes in 1-degree increments with robust hydraulic clamping.
Enshu designed the JE80 with a rigid box-type column and wide-span guideway layout that maintains cutting stability even when the spindle is fully extended at the limits of travel. This structural stiffness is critical when boring deep holes or face milling large surfaces on heavy cast iron parts where chatter would destroy surface finish and tool life. The chip management system handles the substantial volumes generated during heavy roughing operations.
The dual-pallet changer keeps the spindle cutting while operators load and unload parts on the second pallet, and the Fanuc 31i-B5 control manages the full range of operations from roughing through finishing. The standard tool magazine holds 60 tools with options up to 120. For shops producing large pump bodies, compressor housings, machine tool components, or heavy equipment parts, the JE80 provides serious machining capability in a practical production package.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 800 mm pallet and 1,500 kg capacity handle large industrial castings and components that exceed 630mm-class machine limits
- 1,100 mm X-travel provides excellent reach for four-face machining of tall and wide workpieces in a single setup
- Wide-span guideway layout and rigid box column maintain cutting stability even at full axis extension
- Dual-pallet changer enables continuous production on large parts with substantial load/unload times
- 120-tool magazine option supports complex multi-operation jobs typical on large industrial components
- Through-spindle coolant at 70 bar standard supports deep-hole drilling and boring operations common on large housings
Limitations
- Machine weight of 20,000 kg requires substantial foundation work and floor loading capacity
- Rapid traverse at 40 m/min is slower than the smaller GE-series machines, adding to non-cutting time on lighter work
- BT-50 at 8,000 RPM limits high-speed aluminum capability; shops needing speed on large aluminum parts should consider alternatives
- Enshu's limited dealer network outside Japan and select Asian markets affects service response times in North America and Europe
- Pallet change time under 20 seconds is functional but not class-leading for the 800mm pallet category

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New Enshu JE80 machines typically price between $650,000 and $950,000 depending on tool magazine capacity, automation options, and spindle configuration. This positions it competitively in the 800mm-pallet horizontal class.
02
The JE80 is a significant step up with an 800 mm pallet versus 630 mm, 1,100 mm X-travel versus 900 mm, and 1,500 kg workpiece capacity versus 1,000 kg. It is designed for genuinely large parts that do not fit on the GE590H. The GE590H has faster rapids and is more production-oriented for medium-sized parts.
03
The JE80 excels on cast iron, ductile iron, steel, and large aluminum castings. The BT-50 spindle with 22 kW provides the torque for aggressive roughing on ferrous materials, and the rigid structure maintains accuracy through heavy cuts.
04
Yes. While the JE80 is more commonly deployed as a standalone machine or in small cells, Enshu offers FMS integration for multi-machine configurations with shared pallet pools and supervisory control.
05
The machine weighs approximately 20,000 kg and requires a foundation capable of supporting this load plus the maximum 1,500 kg workpiece weight. Enshu provides specific foundation drawings and requirements for each installation site.
