Overview
The DN Solutions PUMA 800 LM II is the 32-inch chuck version of the long-bed 700/800 platform. It shares the same heavy-duty frame, spindle, and Y-axis capability as the PUMA 700 LM II, but swaps the 24-inch chuck for a massive 32-inch (813 mm) chuck — the kind of workholding you need for truly oversized castings, large pipe flanges, and heavy forgings that exceed the grip of a 24-inch.
The trade-off for the bigger chuck is spindle speed: the 800 LM II tops out at 750 RPM versus 1,500 RPM on the 700. But with 8,076 Nm (5,957 ft-lb) of torque from the 55 kW (74 hp) spindle, it's still making chips at serious surface speeds on large-diameter work. At 800 mm diameter and 750 RPM, you're running nearly 1,900 SFM — within the sweet spot for carbide turning in steel.
The 375 mm (14.8 in) through-bore matches the 700 series, allowing large-diameter tubular stock to pass through the spindle. Z-axis travel is 3,235 mm (127 in) with 3,200 mm of max turning length. X-axis provides 470 mm (19 in) of cross travel, and the Y-axis adds 200 mm (8 in) for off-center milling operations with the 3,000 RPM live tooling.
Rapids are 12 m/min on X and 10 m/min on Z. At 22,000 kg (48,502 lb), the machine matches the 700 LM II in weight, sitting on the same bed casting and frame. Box-way construction handles the severe cutting forces that come with taking aggressive passes on 35-inch diameter stock.
The FANUC 0i-TF Plus control is standard. For shops that process large pipe, heavy castings, and oversized forgings requiring 32-inch chuck clamping, the PUMA 800 LM II is purpose-built. It's a niche machine for niche applications, but in that niche, it's hard to beat. Specs sourced from DN Solutions published data.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 32-inch chuck provides maximum clamping force for the largest, heaviest workpieces in the PUMA lineup
- 8,076 Nm of torque at 55 kW handles the most aggressive cuts in any material
- 375 mm through-bore passes oversized tubular stock and hollow workpieces
- Y-axis with 200 mm travel adds mill-turn capability on parts too large to move
- 3,200 mm max turning length covers long shafts and rollers at 35-inch swing
- Same proven 22,000 kg platform as the PUMA 700 LM II with the larger chuck option
Limitations
- 750 RPM max spindle speed is the lowest in the PUMA lineup — surface speed is limited on smaller diameters
- 32-inch chuck and associated jaw sets are expensive to purchase and maintain
- 22,000 kg weight demands heavy industrial-grade foundations
- 7.35 meter machine length requires substantial dedicated floor space
- Very specialized machine — the 750 RPM limit makes it impractical for general-purpose turning

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The 800's 32-inch chuck is significantly larger and heavier than the 700's 24-inch chuck. The lower 750 RPM limit protects the bearings and maintains safe centrifugal force limits on the larger, heavier chuck assembly. At the large diameters this machine handles, 750 RPM still provides excellent surface speed.
02
Absolutely. The 32-inch chuck, 375 mm bore, long bed, and high torque make it well-suited for pipe facing, threading, and OD/ID machining. It's a common choice for large-diameter pipe fabrication, coupling machining, and end prep operations in oil and gas manufacturing.
03
The LM II has the long bed with 3,235 mm Z-axis travel versus 1,650 mm on the M II. All other specs are identical: same spindle, chuck, Y-axis, and live tooling. Choose the LM II for parts longer than about 1.5 meters; the M II saves floor space for shorter chucking work.
04
Maximum workpiece weight depends on the specific mounting configuration (chuck only vs. chuck and tailstock). Contact DN Solutions for rated weight capacity. At this machine class, most workpieces are loaded by overhead crane, and the machine's 22,000 kg mass easily supports heavy workpieces without stability concerns.
