Overview
The DMG Mori INH 80 is the largest machine in DMG Mori’s INH horizontal machining center line, built for shops machining the biggest and heaviest workpieces that fit on a pallet-changing HMC. With 1,400 x 1,350 x 1,350 mm (55.1 x 53.1 x 53.1 in) of travel and an 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in) pallet, it occupies the same territory as machines like the Mazak HCN-8800 and Okuma MB-10000H.
The powerMASTER spindle delivers 85 kW (114 hp) with torque from 808 Nm to 1,414 Nm (596-1,043 ft-lb) through a CAT 50 (BT 50) geared head at up to 6,000 RPM. An 8,000 RPM option is available. This is the same spindle used in the INH 63, but the INH 80 larger envelope and heavier pallet load let it tackle workpieces that overwhelm 630mm-class machines.
The 800 mm pallet supports up to 2,500 kg (5,512 lb), accommodating heavy tombstone setups, large engine blocks, pump housings, and structural castings. The 2-pallet changer is standard, and the 60-tool magazine expands to 120 or 240 positions.
Rapid traverse hits 60 m/min across all axes on roller guides. At approximately 32,000 kg (70,548 lb), the INH 80 provides massive rigidity and thermal stability for consistent accuracy during aggressive roughing cycles. Positioning accuracy is ±0.005 mm across the full travel volume.
New INH 80 machines price between $550,000 and $750,000. The INH 80 competes with the largest production HMCs from Mazak, Okuma, and Makino. Specs sourced from DMG Mori published data and dealer references.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 800 mm pallet with 2,500 kg load capacity handles the largest tombstone fixtures and heavy castings in production
- 1,400 x 1,350 x 1,350 mm travel provides an enormous work envelope for parts that exceed 630mm-class HMC capacity
- 85 kW powerMASTER spindle with up to 1,414 Nm torque drives aggressive roughing in the toughest materials
- 32,000 kg machine weight delivers exceptional rigidity and thermal mass for stable, accurate heavy cutting
- 60 m/min rapids maintain productivity despite the machine large size, minimizing positioning time
- Expandable to 240 tools and multi-pallet systems for high-mix production cells
Limitations
- Starting at $550K, the INH 80 is a major capital investment requiring high utilization to achieve ROI
- 32,000 kg machine weight demands a purpose-built foundation and limits placement options in most facilities
- 6,000 RPM standard spindle speed restricts surface speed on small-diameter tools; shops need the 8K option for versatility
- DMG Mori service and parts costs at this machine class are substantial — budget 3-5% of machine cost annually for maintenance
- Large footprint and service clearance requirements consume significant floor space that could house multiple smaller machines

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New INH 80 machines start around $550,000 for a base FANUC configuration with 60 tools and 2-pallet changer. With SIEMENS control, expanded tool magazine (120 or 240 tools), 8,000 RPM spindle, and linear pallet pool, expect $650,000-$750,000+. Full automation systems add $200,000-$500,000+ to the base machine price.
02
Step up to the INH 80 when your parts or tombstone setups exceed the INH 63 capacity: 800 vs 630 mm pallets, 2,500 vs 1,500 kg load, 1,400 vs 1,050 mm X-travel. If your work fits on a 630 mm pallet under 1,500 kg, the INH 63 saves roughly $125,000+ and is easier to install. Only buy the INH 80 when you genuinely need the extra capacity.
03
At 32,000 kg, the INH 80 requires a reinforced concrete foundation minimum 300 mm (12 in) thick with rebar reinforcement, poured on engineered subgrade. An isolated foundation separated from the shop floor is strongly recommended. Budget $15,000-$40,000 for foundation work depending on site conditions. DMG Mori provides detailed installation drawings.
04
Yes. The 2-pallet changer enables one-pallet-ahead production. Add tool life management, breakage detection, and the expanded 120-240 tool magazine for extended lights-out runs. For full-shift unattended operation, integrate a multi-pallet linear pool system. The machine is designed from the ground up for automated production.
05
The INH 80 matches or exceeds the travel and power of many floor-type boring mills while adding pallet changing, faster rapids, and automatic tool changing. Boring mills offer more flexibility for truly massive workpieces and custom fixturing. The INH 80 wins on productivity for parts that fit within its 800 mm pallet and 2,500 kg capacity. Most shops replacing aging boring mills see 30-50% productivity gains from the pallet-changing format.
